Déjà-vu! Helene Knoop’s recent paintings in New York are stories you’ve heard before depicted in a generous and sensual way. Helene Knoop paints people with characters seen in mythology and religion.
Déjà-vu shows at Trygve Lie Gallery situated in the Norwegian Seamen’s church. One of the greatest commissioners for painting used to be the church. If you take the best symbols from Christianity and unite them with Knoop’s paintings, you will get high-kitsch without the irony. Gold, skin, blood and tears.
Helene Knoop’s paintings shown at Trygve-Lie Gallery in the exhibit called Dèjá-vu, are images with references to the history of painting and sculpture. The persons in the paintings express virtues and conditions which connect to your memories and feelings.
Déjà-vu, starts January 18th between 6-8 p.m. at Trygve Lie Gallery.
